British Prime Minister Johnson and European Commission President Juncker announced that the two sides had reached a new agreement for Britain to leave the European Union (EU).
"Where there is a will, there is an agreement. We have reached it. It is a balanced and reasonable agreement for the EU - UK and is evidence of our commitment to finding a solution." European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker posted on Twitter today.
"I ask EUCO to approve this agreement," Juncker said, referring to the Council of Europe, which will include leaders of member states, which will meet next week.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also announced it had reached a new Brexit agreement with the EU. "We have a great new deal to regain control," Mr. Johnson posted on Twitter, calling on the MPs in London to approve the deal at a meeting on October 17.
The draft agreement was reached just weeks before the deadline for Britain to leave the EU on October 31, ending more than four decades of close economic and political ties with its nearest neighbors.
Immediately after the announcement of the British Prime Minister, opposition Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn urged MPs to reject the draft of the new Brexit agreement. "The agreement will not bring the country together and should be rejected. The best way to arrange Brexit is for people to speak out one last voice in a public vote," Corbyn said.
Since taking office in late July to replace his predecessor Theresa May, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has aggressively pushed the British process out of the EU, even declaring "it is better to die" than asking the EU to postpone Brexit.
Johnson has consistently used the controversial phrase "surrendering action" to describe the law passed by Congress in early September to prevent Brexit from reaching an agreement, requiring the Prime Minister to ask for an extension if he cannot reach it. New agreement with EU before October 19.
