Sweden Malmö city police started using drones to prevent and suppress criminals from today.
"The image from the drone will help us quickly collect information about the events, thereby helping to reach the scene faster," said Johannes Dontsios, South Malmö's regional police official. Flycam is considered to be a device that helps police forces work around the clock in Malmö, the third most populous city in Sweden.
Police can track a public location using a drone without permission, to prevent or detect a crime. Police also have the right to use photos and videos from flycams during the investigation and prosecution.
"This means that photos and videos from flycams can be used as evidence in a trial, or even decisive for a case without witnesses," Dontsios added.
However, the police operating this device are not allowed to film in private homes of citizens and other private locations.
Malmö is considered one of the highest crime rates in Sweden, mainly due to gang fights to gain control of the area for drug and prostitution. The third most populous city in Sweden has recently been hit by a series of murders or gun battles on the street.
