Iran today announced an additional 123 deaths due to nCoV, bringing the total death toll across the country to 2,640 of 38,309 cases.
An Iranian Ministry of Health spokeswoman said during a press conference on March 29 that the country also recorded 2,901 new cases of nCoV in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients nationwide to 38,309.
"Fortunately, 12,391 of the hospital admissions have recovered and returned to their families," he said, but added that 3,467 were in "serious" condition.
Iran is one of the countries most affected by Covid-19 after the epidemic appeared in nearly 200 countries and territories. The country has closed schools, canceled prayer services, temporarily closed parliament as well as major Shiite Muslim pilgrimage sites.
The Islamic Republic has also imposed more stringent measures to cope with Covid-19 after hundreds of thousands of people still poured into the streets to celebrate the Persian New Year in recent days. The Iranian Ministry of Health has repeatedly called on people to report information as well as suspected symptoms of nCoV infection. Data, phone numbers and personal information will be used by health authorities to identify people at risk.
