The EU leaders signed a post-Brexit trade agreement with the UK and sent it to London on an RAF plane.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel on December 30 signed a 1,246-page Trade and Cooperation Agreement in Belgium, almost a week after the UK and EU unification were reached.

The UK is expected to leave the European common market and the European customs union at 23:00 on December 31 (6 a.m. to January 1, Hanoi), ending the post-Brexit transition marked by intense trade negotiations.

The document was transported by the British Air Force to London for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to sign.

EU lawmakers will debate the deal on the evening of December 30.

The UK officially left the EU in January after a deeply divided referendum in 2016. It was the first country to leave the political and economic bloc formed when the continent was rebuilt after World War II.
