German health officials say daily deaths caused by Covid-19 in the country have exceeded 1,000 for the first time since the pandemic broke out.
Germany's Robert Koch Institute said today that the country recorded 1,129 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, up from a record 962 cases reported on December 23.
The institute said daily deaths and infections had clearly decreased in previous days due to the failure of local authorities to submit data over Christmas.
Germany had been in good control of the first Covid-19 outbreak, but was heavily influenced by the second wave of translation.
Tens of thousands of Covid-19 vaccine doses have been delivered to regional health authorities in Germany and continue to be distributed to local immunization centers.
The Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine was the first to be introduced in the West, since UK approval on December 2.
