Australia canceled two agreements signed by Victoria with China on the participation of belt and road initiatives.

Canberra last year promulgation of the new law, allowing the country to cancel any agreement between the state government with overseas is said to threaten the national interests.

Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne on April 21, announced that the federal government will deny the Victorian government's decision on participation in belt and road initiatives (Bri), large infrastructure networks

Payne decided to cancel 4 agreements, including two agreements that Victoria has agreed with China in 2018 and 2019. "I considered these 4 agreements that are not in accordance with Australia's foreign policy or disadvantage

The Bri agreement was signed after Victoria outlined a 10-year strategy to strengthen relations with China.

The announcement was given at the time the relationship between Beijing and Canberra was deteriorating, when the two governments were stressed in trade and competition in the Pacific Ocean.

Australia also has disagreements with China on Xinjiang and Hong Kong issues.
