Ukraine recorded the first case of nCoV, bringing the total number of countries and territories in the world with Covid-19 to 77.
Ihor Kuzin, head of the Public Health Center of Ukraine's Ministry of Health today, said the patient was a man who had been to Italy, the European Covid-19 epidemic. "The man was hospitalized on February 29 in the western city of Chernivtsi. He came to Ukraine from Italy, through Romania," Kuzin said.
According to Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Viktor Lyashko, the patient is currently in stable condition. His wife has isolated herself at home.
"Yesterday I said we had 4 suspected cases of nCoV infection, and today, one in 4 people were confirmed to be infected," Lyashko said at a press conference in Kiev today, adding that health officials were freezing areas where people have been in contact with patients.
Covid-19 has appeared in 77 countries and territories after its launch in China in December 2019. South Korea, Italy and Iran are new epidemic hot spots outside of mainland China.
