The Chinese embassy in Iran is about to repatriate its citizens as the epidemic in this Muslim nation becomes increasingly serious.
The Global Times, a newspaper of People's Daily, the Chinese Communist Party's mouthpiece, said the first flight to evacuate citizens would be to Iran tonight. Chinese students stranded in Qom city, the Covid-19 epidemic center in Iran, were among those registered for evacuation.
Beijing's government today said all passengers entering the Chinese capital from Covid-19 "hotspots", including South Korea, Japan, Iran and Italy, will be quarantined for 14 days.
The Shanghai authorities had previously announced that they would force those who have recently traveled to "relatively serious disease" countries to quarantine 14 days, without specifying the names of the countries.
Many other countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have evacuated citizens from Iran in the context that the country is the third largest outbreak in the world after mainland China and South Korea, with more than 2,300 cases. and 77 deaths.
"All returnees have been quarantined. All regular health checks have been taken to ensure their safety," UAE state news agency WAM reported.
Covid-19 originated in Wuhan, China in December 2019, appeared in 77 countries and territories around the world, with more than 92,000 cases, more than 3,100 deaths and nearly 48,300 people recover. The number of new infections in mainland China has recently decreased significantly, while South Korea, Italy or Iran have recorded more and more cases.
