Ukraine's Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk sent his resignation today after revealing a tape of him disparaging the President's economic knowledge.
"I take this position to implement the President's agenda. To me, he is a model of openness and assertiveness. However, to clear any doubts about respect and respect." My faith in the President, I wrote a resignation letter and sent it to the President to submit to parliament, "Honcharuk shared on Facebook today.
Honcharuk announced his resignation just days after a recording of him criticizing President Volodymyr Zelensky's economic knowledge was leaked. Honcharuk said it was a collage of "recordings of government meetings" and accused "powerful groups" of trying to turn him into a disrespectful president. "That's not true," Honcharuk said.
On Friday, opposition lawmakers asked Honcharuk to resign, saying he and his cabinet undermined the President's reputation and worsened Ukraine's economic crisis. However, the ruling Party People's Party believes there is no basis to force Honcharuk to resign.
Zelensky, 41, was a comedian with no political experience before being elected President of Ukraine in April 2019. He won the election because he pledged to end conflict with separatists in the east, fight corruption and carry out economic reforms of Ukraine, one of the poorest countries in Europe.
Goncharuk was once a lawyer in charge of economic affairs in Zelensky's administration. With the support of a majority of parliamentarians, Goncharuk became the youngest Prime Minister in Ukraine's history in August 2019 at the age of 35.
