The United States was increasingly deeply divided when the Republican party celebrated Trump's 2020 Federal Message, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives tore off the copy.
US President Donald Trump on February 4 read the 2020 Federal Message in the House of Commons in the National Assembly building. Traditionally, the President read the Federal Message as a time of political truce, but this year's event reflects a brutal political battle before the November presidential election.
Shouts of "4 more years, 4 more years" rang out to welcome Trump as he entered the room headed by his top political opponent in Washington: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Trump read the Federal Message 6 weeks after he was dismissed by the House of Representatives and the day before he was more likely to be acquitted in the Senate.
Trump's message began with hatred and ended in animosity between him and Pelosi. Trump ignored the custom and refused to shake hands with Pelosi, who oversaw his review of dismissal for alleged abuse of power over the past months. The US president turned quickly, leaving Pelosi with his hand in the air behind him.
When Trump finished the Federal Message and the Republicans stood up and applauded, Pelosi behind him took a copy of the message and tore it into two pieces.
"It's a polite thing to do, as a way to react," Pelosi told reporters when asked about the action.
During the 18-hour speech, Trump repeatedly declared "the great return of the United States" and praised his achievements. Every time he stopped, the Republican stood up and clapped and cheered, while the Democrats sitting on the other side just did not respond. There were screams of protest and several Democratic MPs leaving the room.
Many female Democratic MPs in white nodded when Trump spoke about the women's suffrage movement. However, when the President mentioned creating an advanced society that includes "all skin colors, religions and beliefs", many Democrats frowned, screeched or mocked. "No problem!" a female parliamentarian cried.
Many Democrats looked shocked and booed when the President accused them of being soft with "dangerous foreign criminals" and seeking to sabotage the health care system. The tension between the two political parties in the United States resulted in months of conflict over the Trump review investigation.
Much of Trump's speech addresses his successful economic policies and the "America first" view. "We have eliminated the mentality of the decline of Americans and eliminated the narrowing of American destiny," he said.
The Republican Party said Trump's deregulation and tax reduction policies had brought unprecedented economic achievements. However, Democrats contend that these policies destroy the environment and support the wealthier than the poor.
Trump lists important trade deals with China and the US-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA), massive military spending, and "unprecedented" measures to prevent illegal immigration. and the proposal to "end the US war in the Middle East" are examples of his commitment to voters. "Unlike my predecessors, I kept my promise," Trump said.
He continued to attack the Democratic Party when he called for legislation to prohibit abortion, school prayers and weapons ownership. For a moment, he stopped his speech to praise Rush Limbaugh, one of the most influential conservative American radio founders. Limbaugh this week revealed he had stage 4 cancer.
To the amazement of the audience, Trump announced the award of the Medal of Freedom, the highest civil award, to Limbaugh, who was sitting next to First Lady Melania. Many Democrats chanted "no" when Trump announced that Limbaugh was considered a symbol of the Republican party and also a close ally of the White House boss.
Trump continued to surprise him by selecting a woman among the audience, whose husband was a soldier deployed abroad for months. "There was a special surprise for her," Trump said. Unexpectedly, her husband came out in military uniform, reunited with his wife and children in tears on the program being broadcast live.
This week could be the darkest time for the Trump administration when the Senate review hearing of the President in the Senate will be ruled on February 5. Since the Republican has pledged to be fully acquitted, Trump has increasingly shown signs of confidence that he will continue his efforts to win the second term.
Trump's Federal message addresses many issues, but does not include the word for dismissal review. Trump previously mocked the Democratic Party's primary election in Iowa because of technical problems that led to slow results. "Nothing is done, the same way they run the country," Trump tweeted.
Trump also received a lot of good news before reading the Federal Message when Gallup poll showed his highest support rating ever: 49%.
The guests at the message reading also reflect on the political theme that Trump will continue to pursue. It was a border patrol officer, a woman whose brother was killed by illegal immigrants in 2018, and Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, who was recognized by the United States as interim president.
Democrats, meanwhile, are about 80 doctors, patients, and others who symbolize what they consider the Trump administration's failure to address healthcare issues.
"All Federal Messages are eloquent and lavishly speaking, but you don't want to turn it into a theater, you know, we don't go to the theater," said Democrat in the Raja House of Representatives. KRnamoorthi said.
