Trump warned his Turkish counterpart to 'not be a fool' in his October 9 letter, after Ankara announced its intention to attack the Kurds in Syria.

"Let's put together a good deal. You don't want to be responsible for killing thousands of people, and I don't want to be responsible for destroying Turkey's economy," the White House said on October 16. Trump's letter to Erdogan last week.

The letter was sent three days after the two leaders held a phone call on October 6, in which Erdgogan announced that it would launch a military operation against the Kurds in Syria. Trump wants the Turkish President to change his mind.

The US president added that he was working to resolve Turkey's problems. "Don't let the world down. You can make a great deal," Trump wrote to Erdogan. Trump said the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces commander General Mazloum Kobani Abdi was ready to negotiate and make some concessions.

"World history will look at you positively if you do this properly and humane. But it will consider you forever evil if good things don't happen. Don't be a stubborn person. Don't be a fool, "wrote the US President. "I'll call you later".

Trump's letter to Erdogan was published by the White House as an explanation in the context of the US president being considered a "green light" for Turkey to conduct military operations in Syria. Many US lawmakers sharply criticized the decision to withdraw 1,000 troops from Syria before Ankara attacked the Kurds.
