Trump first confirmed that the United States carried out a cyberattack against Russia's Internet Research Agency in 2018.
Marc Thiessen, a Washington Post commentator, said on July 11 that in an interview at the White House earlier this week, he asked President Donald Trump if the president launched a cyberattack on the Agency.
The Russian Internet Research Agency is an organization that has been accused of meddling in the 2016 presidential and midterm parliamentary elections in 2018.
Trump asserted that he acted on the intelligence that the US acquired about Russia meddling in the election through cyberattacks.
The Washington Post in October reported a cyberattack, targeting a company backed by a close friend of President Vladimir Putin, to prevent any interference in midterm elections.
Thiessen also added that many senior US officials have confirmed that the cyberattack prevented Russian Internet Research Agency from successfully interfering in US elections.
In the interview, Trump said the cyberattack was part of Russia's confrontation policy.
In an interview with Fox News in June 2019, Trump also implicitly admitted that the US carried out a cyberattack in the midterm elections of 2018. "I don't want to say, but you can believe all that.
