Kim Pyong-il, who lived for decades in Eastern Europe, may soon return to his homeland, according to South Korean intelligence.
Kim Pyong-il, the uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and serving as the North Korean ambassador to the Czech Republic, will soon be called back to Pyongyang, the National Intelligence Agency of Korea (NIS), said. know in the November 4 report to the National Assembly Intelligence Committee.
The report said Kim Kwang-sop, the North Korean ambassador to Austria and Kim Pyong-il's brother-in-law, will also be asked to return home this time. NIS did not specify the reason North Korea wants to recall Kim Jong-un's relatives to the country.
Kim Pyong-il, 65, is the son trying to lead Kim Il-sung with his second wife. He lived abroad for more than 40 years after his half-brother Kim Jong-il became the leader of North Korea. Before serving as Korean ambassador to the Czech Republic in 2015, he was ambassador to Poland for 16 years, according to Time.
In July 2015, he returned to Pyongyang to attend an ambassador meeting and met his nephew Kim Jong-un. He held a ceremony to commemorate the late leader Kim Jong-il in Prague, Czech Republic last December.
