The US director of the CDC warned that the country could lose all its recent achievements against Covid-19 in the face of a contagious strain.

"Hear what I say: If the new strain spreads with the current number of infections, we will completely lose the difficult foundation we can reach," said the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. Walensky warned that after weeks of US records of nCoV cases continuously declining, the number of new infections has risen again last week, about 2% higher than the previous week.

"I'm really worried about the news that many states are reversing public health measures that we have recommended to protect people from the pandemic," Walensky said, warning local authorities.

She also called on people to be steadfast, continue to wear masks and take preventive measures that are evaluated as effective by health authorities.
