The lawyer said the George Floyd family would file a civil lawsuit against Derek Chauvin, the police kneaded him to death.
Lawyer Benjamin Crump said the Floyd family, a 46-year-old black man was killed on May 25, "intends to hold Chauvin fully responsible both civil and criminal."
Chauvin, a 44-year-old former police officer at the Minneapolis Police Department, is being charged with second-degree murder, intentionally murdering but without previous planning or planning.
However, the Floyd family lawyer called for the prosecution of Chauvin for first-degree murder "because we believe he knows who George Floyd is".
Floyd and Chauvin previously worked as nightclub guards in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and knew each other "very well," according to David Pinney, a former colleague of both.
"They used to head off each other. The incident involved Derek being aggressive with some patrons in the nightclub," Pinney explained.
On June 8, Chauvin had his first online trial and did not object to the $ 1.25 million bail imposed by the prosecutor.
The video shows Chauvin holding Floyd for nearly 9 minutes, while the black man cried out "I can't breathe", triggering a wave of protests across the United States.
Crump also said that the police department culture needs to change.
