A suspect infected with corona virus in Wuhan committed suicide at home after being neglected by local authorities about the illness.
In a statement on Feb. 16, the Wuhan City Supervisory Commission, the site of the outbreak of nCoV pneumonia (Covid-19), said the victim was a Cheng man, living in the Yongkang district. Kiềukou.
Chinh Khang officials knew that Cheng could be infected with nCoV but did not report to his superiors, causing him to be treated in a timely and effective manner. Cheng later committed suicide by hanging at home.
The statement did not specify the circumstances in which the man had to choose extreme measures but emphasized that the incident had serious negative impacts on society.
Four officials from the Yongkang area were fined for the death of Mr. Cheng. In it, Tu Ying, party chief of Yongkang Party, and Wu Aiying, deputy party secretary, were warned internally. Two other officials were reprimanded for failing to fulfill their duties.
The outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic revealed many weaknesses in the management work of Wuhan authorities and Hubei province. The provincial and city secretaries have been removed and replaced by those with experience in legal issues and assertiveness in dealing with public health crises.
Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Ton Xuan Lan earlier this month demanded party officials at all levels to actively take the lead in the fight against the epidemic that killed more than 1,800 people and killed more than 73,000, or "nailed to a pillar of historical shame forever."
She also directed the Wuhan government to send staff members to every household to check the temperature of all members to prevent the source of the disease spread. People in Wuhan were divided into four quarantine groups for appropriate monitoring and treatment, including those confirmed to be infected with nCoV, those suspected of being infected, those in close contact with sick people and those with fever.
