The Italian prosecutor is investigating the mysterious drowning of Russian model Galina Fedorova near NATO's main base on the island of Sardinia over the weekend.
The Italian Coast Guard on September 5 found the naked body of 35-year-old Galina Fedorova after she and a photographer sailed off the southern coast of Sardinia.
"The investigation is continuing and according to preliminary reports the woman may have drowned," said Enrico Lussu, deputy prosecutor in the city of Cagliari on the island of Sardinia today.
Fedorova, who used to take sample photos for Playboy magazine and regularly appears on the covers of men's magazines, boarded a canoe to take pictures with British Russian photographer Gerenius Tavarov.
The steamboat was then blown off the anchor by the waves and washed ashore.
Tavarov was saved, but they couldn't find Fedorova.
"The current swept the boat toward the reef, they tried to swim towards it but failed," said local officials.
Lussu said that after rescuing Fedorova's body, the police also collected the belongings in the boat, including cameras, cell phones, a computer and a drone, to investigate.
"We are analyzing the content that has been copied from the devices before we hand it over to the owner. There are also some bottles of strong alcoholic drinks," he said.
The prosecutor decided to scrutinize the drowning incident of Fedorova near one of Italy's largest military bases on the Teulada coast.
