The Russian president said he was ready to work with any US leader but was not ready to recognize Biden's election victory.

"We will work with anyone who has the confidence of the American people," Russian President Vladimir Putin said on national television on November 22.

He described the Kremlin's decision to not congratulate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden as "normal" and without any ulterior motives.

"Procedures must be followed based on established legal practices and standards. There is no ulterior motive or anything that could further degrade our relationship. That's the way forward.

"It's not like we like or dislike someone. We are simply waiting for this internal political confrontation to end," Putin noted, adding that he pays respect to both Biden and Trump.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Putin would congratulate the president on the US election when the final election results are announced.

Nearly two weeks after Biden was named president elected by the US media, Trump still refused to lose and announced that he would pursue a legal effort to the end.
