American National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien affirmed that the US-Vietnam relationship "is rooted in mutual trust" and is developing comprehensively.

At the beginning of his speech, Advisor O'Brien reviewed the activities and events he participated in when he came to Vietnam, and greeted US President Donald Trump.
For the past 25 years, he affirmed, the US and Vietnam have "put aside difficult histories and built friendships".
Advisor O'Brien lists a number of Vietnam-US cooperation over the past quarter century, such as joining hands to gather the remains of soldiers killed and missing in the war, coordinating in clearing bombs and mines.
He particularly noted that Vietnam and the United States were "side by side in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic".
He expressed appreciation for Vietnam's support in maintaining supply chains and factories, helping the United States to secure supplies of personal protective equipment to protect people's lives.
As the two countries recover from a pandemic, economic cooperation will prove to be more important than ever, the US National Security Adviser said.
"As the largest economy in the world and the most generous donor of humanitarian assistance in the world, the US is always ready to help Vietnam develop its economy. In response, we want Vietnam to buy more.
In terms of the Indo-Pacific vision, according to Advisor O'Brien, the region is becoming a central stage in world affairs.
"Our two countries have tackled a variety of regional issues. Together, we have built a common vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific," he said.
He mentioned the USS Theodore Roosevelt's visit to Da Nang in March, marking the second time an American aircraft carrier had visited Vietnam since the end of the war.
"These visits not only reaffirm and strengthen the partnership between the two countries, but also promote peace, stability as well as an unobstructed flow of trade in the Indo-Pacific.
Advisor O'Brien affirmed that the US values its partnership with Vietnam and Vietnam's close coordination on strategic issues of mutual concern, including maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea and the region.
"We share our deep commitment to an Indo-Pacific region based on rules of respect, fairness and principles of international law such as sovereignty and freedom of navigation",
At the end of his speech, he affirmed that the United States is deeply concerned with a strong and prosperous Vietnam, playing a central role in a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
