Putin is considering running for a new term as Russian president if voters agree to change the constitution so he can do this.

"I do not rule out the possibility of running for election, if that is allowed by the constitution. Let's see what will happen. I have not decided anything yet," Russian President Vladimir Putin today said in an interview.

Russia will hold a national vote from June 25 to July 1 on constitutional changes, including amendments that allow Putin to continue to serve as president for two more terms, each for six-year terms,

Opponents of the amendment argue that the constitutional reform is intended to help President Putin maintain power until 2036. However, the Kremlin says the amendment is necessary to strengthen the role of parliament and improve policy.

Putin, 67, has assumed Russia's leadership role for two decades.

"If the amendment is not approved, in my personal experience, after about two years, the working pace of many government agencies will be changed by the search for potential successors.
