A police officer in the security team of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte died today after two weeks of being confirmed to be infected with nCoV.

Officer Giorgio Guastamacchia, 52, received a positive test result for nCoV on March 21, but according to the Italian government, he had not been in contact with Prime Minister Conte for at least the past two weeks.

Italy's Corriere della Sera newspaper then reported that Conte, 55, had tested the nCoV as a precaution and given a negative result. The head of the Italian police force sent condolences to the Guastamacchia family.

Italy has so far recorded nearly 120,000 cases and nearly 15,000 deaths from nCoV. Two new studies show that the number of people dying from nCoV in Italy may be higher than reported because many people died without being tested and therefore not included in the list.

Italy was the first Western country to issue a nationwide blockade because Covid-19, demanded that people stay home and shut down non-essential businesses. Italian health experts said the measures to blockade were effective, but the country wasted too much time before, causing many deaths.

Some countries such as Russia, China and Vietnam have supported Italy masks and medical supplies to prevent epidemics. Russia, China and Cuba have sent medical experts to Italy, while Germany has received and treated some patients with nCoV from the country.
