Germany today reports an additional 141 deaths of nCoV in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths nationwide to 1,158.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German disease control and prevention agency, announced the same day that it recorded 85,778 positive cases for nCoV, an increase of 6,082 cases compared to the previous day.
Chancellor Angela Merkel said yesterday there was "a little hope" for Germany as the daily figures of new cases and deaths from nCoV slowed compared to a few days ago. However, she stressed that it was too early to recognize the development trend of the disease as well as the time to relax the control measures.
Chancellor Merkel, who has just ended two weeks of isolation on April 3, confirmed that fixing the time to lift the blockade would be "irresponsible". She added that this would only make the German health, economy and society more difficult. She also urged all Germans to avoid traveling around the country for the upcoming Easter.
The reputation of the German Chancellor soared during the Covid-19 crisis when the majority of people expressed agreement with her calm and cautious response to the epidemic. According to the results of a survey conducted by German television network ARD on April 2, 64% of the people were satisfied with the measures taken by Chancellor Merkel.
Germany has decided to extend the order to close schools, restaurants, bars, cinemas and other recreational activities at least until April 20. People are not allowed to leave their homes unless there is a special reason such as shopping for supplies or medical visits. Germans are prohibited from gathering more than 2 people and are required to keep a distance of 1.5 m from each other. Localities have the right to fine people who violate the Covid-19 prevention measures.
