The medal in recognition of the scientist's assassinated last month's contributions, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, was given to his family today.
According to Iranian state television, the Nasr ("Victory" in Persian) Medal, signed by the supreme spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was given by Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of the armed forces.
"This medal is for those who love to defend the Islamic revolution, the territorial integrity and independence of Iran," Major General Bagheri said.
The vehicle carrying Fakhrizadeh and the bodyguards was ambushed in Absard city, east of Tehran province on November 27.
A senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said Fakhrizadeh was remotely killed with "satellite-controlled systems" and equipped with "artificial intelligence technology" without a presence.
After Fakhrizadeh's death, Iran's Defense Minister Amir Hatami called him deputy minister and leader of the Organization for Defense Research and Innovation (SPDN), focusing on "nuclear defense".
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018 accused Fakhrizadeh of leading a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program, which Tehran has always denied.
