Austria: The home where Adolf Hitler was born in Braunau was turned into a police station to prevent it from being a destination for fascist supporters.
The 800 m2 yellow painted house in the town of Braunau, in northern Austria, is located near the border with Germany where Hitler was born on April 20, 1889. "The fact that the house will be used by the police sends clear signals that it will never be a place to commemorate fascism," Austrian Interior Minister Wolfgang Peschorn said in a press release on 19 /. 11.
Officials will hold an EU conference to find the best design for the police station. The jury of experts and town representatives will decide the winner in the first half of next year.
Although Hitler lived only a short time there, it continued to attract fascist supporters from around the world. Every year, on the day of Hitler's birth April 20, anti-fascist protesters held a rally outside the building. The Austrian Interior Ministry had considered destroying it, but the plan faced opposition from politicians and historians.
Adolf Hitler was an Austrian of German origin and held the position of Nazi Germany in 1934 - 1945. He caused World War II and was behind the Holocaust. Hilter died on April 30, 1975 in Berlin when the Nazis failed before the Allies.
