South Korea, Director of the Preventive Medical District of western Daegu district, admitted to being a New Heavenly sect after testing positive for nCoV.
Information was released by Mayor of Daegu Kwon Young-jin this afternoon. The official's identity was not disclosed, but Daegu officials said he was the director of the Infectious Diseases Preventive Health Agency in a district west of the city.
The official, who headed the war against Covid-19 in the western district, has been in contact with 50 colleagues and subordinates in recent years. These people are isolated at home as a precaution after the official has been confirmed positive for nCoV.
A police officer in Daegu and a female teacher in the nearby city of Gumi also admitted to being New Tianjin followers after having tested positive for nCoV.
South Korea today recorded an additional 231 cases positive for nCoV, bringing the total number of corona virus infections in the country to 833, of which about 60% of cases came from Tan Thien Dia branches.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it has asked more than 9,300 Xinjiang members to isolate themselves, of which 1,276 have symptoms of nCoV infection. Most of these people are related to the denomination church in Daegu city.
The Daegu police also mobilized about 600 officers to search for unreported Xinjiang followers. However, sectarian representatives said they had not been able to reach more than 200 members.
Tan Thien Dia is a controversial organization and has been considered a heresy by many branches of Christianity, including Protestantism, Catholicism and Orthodox Churches in Korea. The Anglican Church and the Baptist Church in Manipur, India have also warned believers to be alert to the New Heavenly Yard.
