People in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, protested Monday night for justice for a man killed after police strangled neck.
On the evening of May 27, US police urgently deployed forces around the Third Police District, Minneapolis, Minnesota, where officers allegedly killed George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man.
They continued on Monday night, facing a growing number of protesters demanding justice for Floyd.
Protesters threw stones and bottles at the police and gathered outside the home of Mike Freeman, Hennepin County official, and Derek Chauvin, the officer who pressed his knee to Floyd's neck.
A smaller, less chaotic demonstration also took place on Chicago Boulevard and Street E. 38, where Floyd died.
Floyd was controlled by four white police officers on May 25 for alleged involvement in a signature spoof.
Police officers involved in the incident were fired by the Minneapolis Police Department.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and state law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he could not understand why the policeman clutched his knee to Floyd's neck until he faded away.
"Why doesn't the man who killed George Floyd have to go to jail? If you or I did that, we're now behind bars. Based on what I see, that officer should be charged," Frey said.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden called on the FBI to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Floyd's justice demonstrations evoke memories of riots in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, after a police officer shot and killed an African-American young man suspected of robbing.
