American medical, political and social experts describe the number of deaths due to Covid-19 as a tragedy, concerned about the next course of the epidemic.

On May 27, the US recorded more than 100,500 deaths from nCoV, more than 1.7 million people infected, an increase of over 720 and more than 18,800 cases in 24 hours.

"The fact that the United States records more deaths from Covid-19 than any other country is sad and disturbing. Few people thought of this 100,000 earlier this year," said Dr. Brandon Brown, School of Medicine,

Also expressing concern, Ogbonnaya Omenka, a public health expert, Butler University, Indiana, said that the number of deaths could be higher than the published data due to different state calculations.

According to Joe Wert, professor of political science, Southeastern University of Indiana, USA, mid-April, Covid-19 deaths in the US were forecast at 60,000 but it was quickly denied.

"No one knows what the epidemic situation in America will be like, how many people will get infected and die. The current number of deaths is tragic and depressing," Wert said.

Comparing deaths from Covid-19 in the US to other epidemics, Professor Richard Larson, data and social expert, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, said the number of 100,000 had occurred.

"Every death is a tragedy. We are witnessing more than 100,000 tragedies caused by Covid-19," Larson said.

Predicting upcoming developments, Omenka at Butler University thinks that the number of infections in the US will continue to rise amid most states reopening.

"I wouldn't be surprised if the number of deaths in the US would reach 200,000 by the end of the year," Omenka said.

Brown warned of the risk of a second, larger scale of the Covid-19 wave in the United States, as the authorities eased outbreak restrictions.

Professor Larson noted that a third wave of Covid-19 could occur in early 2021. He said the 1918 H1N1 flu pandemic had three waves, of which the second was the worst.

As a result, the US suffered, according to Professor Wert, the economy was devastated, the highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression.

Socially, Wert said that Covid-19 appeared so Americans would not dare to go to the hospital to treat other illnesses because of fear of viral infections and suicides might increase.

To limit the damage caused by Covid-19, Omenka said that the US needs to increase exchanges so that the American people do not understand the effect of "restricting the road".

According to Dr. Brown, in order to stop the second Covid-19 wave, the US government should maintain testing and preventive measures including ensuring people keep their distance, wear masks when going out and wash their hands regularly.

"The number of deaths in the US could be much lower if the authorities act earlier," he said.
