India Pannalal, 43 years old, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, cut the belly of his wife to check the sex of the baby when the monk told him the baby in the womb was still a girl.
Pannalal was arrested by police after attacking his wife Anita Devi on the night of September 19 at her home in Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh state, India.
Police said the Pannala and his wife had 5 daughters.
"My brother-in-law often beat my sister for giving birth to 5 girls. My parents had to intervene several times but no one expected her to cut her belly," Singh said.
Singh then took his sister to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, where doctors performed surgery to save the lives of Devi and her daughter in the abdomen.
Budaun district police said Pannalal was arrested on charges of murder.
Gender inequality persists in India for a long time.
Some couples will continue to give birth until the birth of a boy, resulting in millions of girls having "unwanted" births, according to the 2017-2018 Economic Survey. India allows abortion, but abortion is prohibited.
As a result, India has become one of the countries with the largest sex ratio in the world, with 107 men for only 100 women.
Even when girls are born rather than broken, they face a higher death rate due to inadequate care.
