Nisachol Sawasdiwong, 33, died in a house burned by a phone exploding while charging.

The blaze erupted in the morning on December 26 when Sawasdiwong and her husband Yothin, 36, were sleeping, causing their wooden house in Nakhon Si Thammarat to burn down quickly. Yothin escaped from the house and lost consciousness, while his wife was trapped.

After controlling the fire, the fire department found Sawasdiwong's body in the rubble. The husband was taken to the emergency room at the hospital but has not regained consciousness and is in critical condition.

Firefighters say the fire originated from a smartphone circuit collapsed during overnight charging. An autopsy revealed that the wounds were all caused by the heat of the fire.

Neighbors said Yothin suffered burns all over his body and inhaled smoke. He tried to save his wife from the burning house but failed.

"Yothin tried to save his wife but she was unconscious in the house by inhaling smoke because recently her health was not good. We knew they used to charge their phones overnight and the fire department also said that the fire originated from trying to disconnect the phone they suspected from the phone, "police colonel Chokdee Rakwattanapon said. "Information from the husband will be useful for the investigation, but he is currently in critical condition and may die."
