South Korea: Two apartment buildings in Daegu city were blockaded after dozens of residents, most of whom were followers of New Heaven, were positive for nCoV.
The apartment complex in the city of Daegu, South Korea's Covid-19 epidemic, was placed in isolation from 46 residents infected with nCoV, Mayor Kwon Young-jin said today. More than 140 people live in two buildings, including 94 members of the New Heavenly Sect.
This is the first community community to be sealed off since Covid-19 broke out, Kwon said. The apartment is owned by the city government and only single women under 35 years old can live here.
South Korea is currently the second largest Covid-19 drive in the world with more than 7,000 cases of nCoV. The country today recorded two more deaths from nCoV, bringing the total number of deaths nationwide to 44.
More than 60% of the cases in South Korea are linked to Tan Thien Dia believers in Daegu and the city alone records more than 5,000 cases. Health officials are testing nCoV for more than 260,000 people involved in the sect.
Mr. Kwon urged the followers of Tan Thien Dia to present and conduct the test after more than 30% of the 709 members tested tested positive for nCoV.
"The cooperation of the Tan Thien Dia members is very important to preventing the spread in the community," he said.
