The FBI issued a wanted warrant with Shahram Poursafi on August 10.

Bolton was a US National Security Advisor under former President Donald Trump, holding a very tough stance with Tehran.

According to the FBI, Poursafi approached American citizens, called individual A, via social networks and in October 2021, asked to take photos of Mr. Bolton on the grounds that the book was about to publish.

The investigators said Poursafi contacted the second person via encrypted messaging app and offered to pay $ 250,000 to hire Bolton to eliminate Bolton, then negotiate up to $ 300,000.

The US and Iran began negotiating JCPOA last year.

The director of the Iranian atomic energy agency said that the country had enough technical means to make nuclear bombs but did not intend to do so.

The US State Department spokesman said that Iran was at risk of Russian dependence after President Putin visited Tehran.
