Russia - Ukraine conflicts and the supply of gas for Europe have been cut, attracting a lot of attention to the project, especially from Germany.

The enagas re -ization factory in Barchelona port, the oldest factory in Europe, on March 29.

In addition to the gas crisis, Spain hopes to improve the connection with other countries of Europe, opening the path to become a new center of the European Union (EU) for green hydrogen, energy source

The Midcat project has been started in 2013. This is a pipeline connecting the Catalonia region in northeastern Spain with southern France through the Pyrenees, to connect Spain and Portugal with the central European gas network.

6 years later, the project was suspended by the legal and Spanish management agencies due to environmental impact and lack of budget.

Spanish Minister Teresa Ribera last week said that the backup plan is being studied, but the simplest choice is through Pyrenees Mountain so that the pipe can operate at the end of 2023 or early 2024.

This is not a bilateral problem between Spanish and French.

Germany, a country depends heavily on the supply of Russian gas, expressed ready to implement the project.

Spain has 6 factories re -natural gas to liquefy (LNG), making the country the country with the largest re -ization capacity of the EU.

Portugal and Spain want the EU to compose such a bills to build such a connection system with a value of about US $ 440 million.

Green hydrogen is created by electrolytic, which is considered green energy because of the use of renewable energy, not toxic emissions.

France oppose the midcat pipeline because the project does not help the current energy crisis and affect climate goals.

Spain said it could be completed to France for 9 months, after Germany raised the idea to help Europe reduce Russian energy dependence.
