Russia asked the US to issue 56 visas for Foreign Minister Lavrov and delegation to New York to attend the UN annual meeting, but have not received feedback.

In the letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres that Reuters saw on September 2, the Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said that the necessary documents were submitted to the US Embassy in Moscow, but Washington has not responded to it.

Nebenzia added that no US visa was granted to journalists to accompany Mr. Lavrov as well as flight team members.

The Ambassador said Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev could not go to New York to attend the UN Police Leadership Summit this week.

Nebenzia asked Mr. Guterres to once again emphasize to US officials that they must quickly grant visas as required to all Russian delegates and accompanying people, including Russian journalists.

The UN spokesman Eri Kaneko said the Secretary -General and other senior officials were closely related to the US and Russia for visas.

The US State Department spokesman said Washington attaches great importance to his obligations as the UN headquarters, adding that the visa record is confidential according to the US law, so they cannot comment on individual cases.

According to the UN 1947 head office agreement, the United States was required to grant licenses for foreign diplomats to attend the organization's event.

The relationship between the US and Russia has cracked since Russia opened a military campaign in Ukraine in late February.

We process hundreds of visas per year for Russian delegates to attend the UN event.

This is especially important because Russia's unrighteous actions against the US Embassy in Moscow, including forcing local and third country employees, has caused our number of employees to seriously decrease.

The government of Joe Biden often said that Russia was isolated in the international arena, but even US officials now have a dialogue with Moscow.
