According to the decision of the Minister of Defense, General Sergei Surovikin was appointed as the commander of the army in the special military campaign area, the Russian Ministry of Defense on October 8 announced.

General Sergei Surovikin, 56, was born at Novosibirsk in the Siberian region.

In 2002, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the armed forces, which was a school for officers with the rank of Major.

In 2008, he worked at the General Department of Organization of the General Staff.

Surovikin also participated in the military intervention campaign in Syria in 2017 and 2019, directly commanding the battlefield.

In 2021, he was signed by President Vladimir Putin.
