National Assembly Chairman Sri Lanka announced President Gotabaya Rajapaksa scheduled to resign next week.
To ensure the peace conversion process, the president said he would resign on July 13, Sri Lanka National Assembly Chairman Mahinda Abeywardana on July 9 said in a television statement.
Abeywardena said that the National Assembly will meet within 7 days to choose the president's right.
After a certain period of time, an election can be held for people to elect new National Assembly, he added.
