Police investigated a suspected pickup that contained explosive equipment outside the National Assembly Library on Capitol Hill and evacuated the area around the building.

Capitol police said the officers were responding to a suspicious car near the National Assembly Library.

Executive officials said that the surveillance investigators are determining whether the device is at risk of explosion and whether the man in the car has an explosive device.

Police blocked the roads around the Capitol complex when fire trucks and rescue reached the scene.
