A large explosion was recorded at Russian Belbek air base on the Crimea peninsula on October 1, creating a black smoke column that could be seen from afar.

According to the media and Russian officials, the incident occurred after a plane carrying the ammunition slipped off the runway while landing at the airport at the Belbek military base in the city of Sevastopol.

Regarding the situation at Belbek base, a plane was dislocated from the runway when landing and causing the amount of ammunition to explode.

The images on social networks show a bunch of giant black smoke swirling in the sky with many people on the beach observing from afar.

In August, a series of major explosions destroyed at least 8 fighters and some buildings at Russian Saki Air Base on the Crimea peninsula.

Russia merged Crimea into the territory after a 2014 referendum. Kiev did not recognize this and called Crimea the territory occupied.
