Uzbekistan on July 2 issued an emergency a month at Karakalpakstan, after the protest broke out here from June 30 to protest the proposal to correct the Constitution.

According to the current Constitution, Karakalpakstan is described as the republic of Uzbekistan sovereignty and has the right to separate by organizing a referendum.

Before the wave of protests, President Mirziyoyev on July 2 pledged to withdraw the revision related to Karakalpakstan from the draft of the Constitution, expected to be referged in the coming months.

In the speech on July 3, President Mirziyoyev said the protest was the wrong slogan and tried to occupy the headquarters of local government agencies.

Some groups tried to occupy the building of the Department of Home Affairs and the National Guard Department in Nukus capital to get weapons, Mr. Mirziyoyev said.

Some witnesses said the police used spicy slightly and smoke grenades to disperse a small protest on July 2 at the market of Nukus capital.
