The 6.8-degree earthquake occurred off Northeast Japan this morning with the mind of the earthquake in 2011, but there was no tsunami warning.

US Geological Surveying Agency (USGS) said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 47 km off the city of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Province.

The earthquake that occurred near the heart of the big tsunami in 2011 caused 18,000 people to die.

"We are collecting information but have not received any reports on injury or damage," said local government spokesman Tomoki Sawata, and said the "quite strong" earthquake.

Local railway companies paused the service, including Shinkansen high-speed vessel, while elevators some buildings in Miyagi stopped operating.

TEPCO, the Fukushima nuclear factory operation company, said the facility does not have any abnormal signs after the latest shake.

Japan is located on the Pacific "fire belt" with strong seismic activities stretching through Southeast Asia and the Pacific basin area.

In March, a 7.2-degree magnitude earthquake happened off the Northeast coast.

The area was also shaken by a strong earthquake in February that made dozens of injured people.
