US special forces were the first to arrive at the scene of the murder of Iranian General Soleimani, pulling his body out of the car to determine.
A group of US special forces troops in Iraq followed the convoy carrying Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and nine officials just over a kilometer away when it left Baghdad International Airport and was hit by missiles from a U.S. Reaper drone. On Tuesday, Fox News yesterday quoted a US government source as saying.
The task force at the scene for about 1-2 minutes, performed a so-called "damage assessment", took photos of the scene, confirmed the drone had chosen the right car and Soleimani was dead.
Fox News photos obtained from government sources show the Soleimani van burned and his body on the scene. Undisclosed photos include graphic, close-up of deformed body and loss of Soleimani's limbs or burning body next to the car he was sitting in.
US special forces pulled Soleimani's body from the scene, extinguish the fire before identifying it as the general of Iran. They photographed the possessions he brought, including collections of poetry and cash. Soleimani also carries pistols and rifles.
Under normal circumstances, Soleimani's phones and other electronic devices will be taken away for forensic analysis. However, the missile attack and subsequent fire made such an investigation impossible.
The US State Department in April 2019 accused Iran of being responsible for the deaths of 608 American soldiers during the Iraq War and Soleimani was responsible for 17% of US servicemen's deaths in Iraq between 2003 and 2011. One US servicemen are stationed in Iraq and look at photos saying Soleimani died in a similar way to "Americans killed by him".
