A lawyer for Thomas Lane, one of the four police officers involved in the death of George Floyd, said the client tried to save the victim when he was unconscious.

"He did more than that," attorney Earl Gray said in an interview on June 8.

Lane was one of two cops who were seen assisting former officer Derek Chauvin to hold Floyd to the ground for nearly 9 minutes.

According to Lawyer Gray, when Chauvin, Lane's training officer, pressed his knee on the back of Floyd's neck, Lane repeatedly offered to turn Floyd over.

"He thought he was doing what was right," lawyer Gray said.

Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder.

However, Gray said that the public will have a different view of Lane when watching videos from cameras mounted on police officers about the arrest.

"Especially if they know the police process and what the police will do when they commit a felony arrest," Gray said.

Gray said he had seen a video from the client's camera, showing Floyd "resisted" boarding a police car.

Earlier, according to Maurice Lester Hall, friend of the victim, Floyd was startled when the police approached their car and he just "tried to placate the situation" rather than resist the arrest.

Videos of Floyd's last minutes returned by passers-by show that he did not resist.

George Floyd's funeral took place on June 9 at the Fountain of Praise church, Houston, Texas, his hometown.
