Turkey launched the first fully electric car to be produced domestically, saying it would supply about 175,000 cars in the next 13 years.

"We're all seeing Turkey's 60-year dream come true. When we see this car on roads around the world, that's when we reach our goal." , Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan spoke at the ceremony at Gebze today.

This $ 3.7 billion project is the long-term goal of the President of Turkey and his ruling party, as a testament to the country's growing economic power. Erdogan said Turkey not only sells cars domestically but also wants it to become a global brand, starting with Europe.

The Turkish president added that electric car charging stations will be ready to go nationwide by 2022.

Turkey is a major exporter of cars to Europe, with automakers like Ford, Fiat Chrysler, Renault, Toyota and Hyundai all setting up factories in the country.

The project to produce electric cars was launched in October, receiving state support at the discretion of President Erdogan, such as reducing taxes and setting up a production facility at a car center in Bursa. The Turkish government pledges to buy 30,000 cars by 2035.

Erdogan first revealed his plan in November 2017. TOGG Corporation in charge of the project says it will start production in 2022 with compact SUVs.
