Trump said he created an agreement to end the conflict for Ethiopia, but the Nobel Peace Prize winner was Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

"I made an agreement, I saved a country and all I heard was that its leader was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for saving the country," US President Donald Trump told supporters. at a rally in Toledo, Ohio, on January 9, he confirmed he had prevented the risk of a major war and saved many people in Ethiopia.

Although the White House owner did not name the Nobel Peace Prize-winning national leader, he is most likely referring to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the owner of this prestigious award last year.

Prime Minister Ahmed, 43, was honored for his efforts to achieve international peace and cooperation, in particular his decisive initiative to resolve border conflicts with neighboring Eritrea.

At least 70,000 people were killed before Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace agreement in December 2000, but tensions remained high when Ethiopia refused to recognize the borders between the two countries. When Ahmed took office in Ethiopia in April 2018, he released political prisoners and continued to sign a peace agreement with his counterpart Eritrea Isaias Afwerki.

Experts say the US's role in promoting a peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea is "weak". They argue that the UAE, which has a great influence in the Horn of Africa, is a key factor in the deal being implemented. Saudi Arabia is also considered to be an important contributor to the agreement.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on October 11 last year and the Ethiopian Prime Minister made a speech to receive the award in Oslo, Norway, a month later. Ivanka Trump and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo both congratulated him.

The White House boss announced in September last year that if the Nobel Peace Prize was a fairly elected award, he was one of the most deserving.
