Trump vowed to lead protesters to the parliament building, urged them to take action, and then quietly went back to the White House.
US President Donald Trump appeared in front of thousands of supporters in a rally in Washington on January 6 to declare he won this year's election and affirm that he will "never admit defeat".
"We will never give up, we will never admit defeat. We will block election stealing," President Trump said at a rally in Ellipse Park near the White House, about an hour.
From behind the large bulletproof glass, Trump also called on his supporters to march toward the Capitol to join the demonstrations, announcing he would lead the march himself.
"We're going to the Capitol, and I'll be there with you to cheer our brave senators," Trump said in the crowd cheers.
Following Trump's call, hundreds of rally participants marched from the park near the White House to the Capitol.
However, according to US reporters at the scene, in the midst of the chaos, President Trump took to the armored vehicle, with the convoy escorting back to the White House, instead of going with his supporters to the parliament building.
