Trump denied that Atlantic claimed that he disdained American soldiers who died in World War I, accusing the magazine's editor of being pro-Democrats.
"Only animals say that," US President Donald Trump said at a White House press conference on September 7, referring to last week's Atlantic article, citing unnamed sources as saying that Trump was 2018.
The article also said that Trump called 1,800 US Marines who died in the battle of Belleau Forest during World War I buried in the cemetery "miserable" for being killed.
Trump said the article's author, Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg, had a "very bad past" and accused him of being a Democrat.

Observers said that Atlantic's post could cause a crisis for Trump, causing a decline in military support for him.
Goldberg said in an interview on September 6 that "more articles will be published about this, as well as new sources of confirmation and information in the coming time".
During the press conference yesterday, Trump added that he "doesn't understand" why people associate what he said about former Sen. John McCain Trump to the allegations made in the article.
Sen. McCain was arrested while fighting in Vietnam in 1967. McCain was also a critic of Trump when he ran for the presidency of the Republican party in 2015-2016.
