The 70-year-old man died this morning at Princess Margaret Hospital, becoming the second person infected with corona virus to die in Hong Kong.
Princess Margaret Hospital spokesman said the patient's condition worsened and he died later. Details will be announced at a joint press conference this afternoon between the city health authority and the hospital.
Health sources say the man died around 7 this morning. In addition to nCoV infection, the patient also had diabetes and kidney problems, but the exact cause of his death remains unknown.
The patient lived alone in the Kwai Chung area, once went to mainland China in late January and then returned to Hong Kong and became ill on February 2. He was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital 10 days later, but was in critical condition when he was diagnosed with corona virus on February 14.
This is the second death related to corona virus in Hong Kong. Special zone officials previously announced that the 39-year-old man also died at Princess Margaret Hospital. The patient visited Wuhan, Hubei province of mainland China on January 21 and returned to Hong Kong two days later by rail. He had a fever on January 31 and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was confirmed positive for nCoV.
The Covid-19 epidemic broke out in Wuhan from December 2019, then appeared in 27 countries and territories around the world. The outbreak has so far caused 2,009 deaths and 75,184 infections, mainly in China. Six deaths were recorded outside mainland China in Japan, Hong Kong, France, the Philippines and Taiwan.
