The number of deaths from acute pneumonia caused by the new strain of corona virus (nCoV) increased to 426, the number of infected people also increased to more than 20,000.
The Hubei Health Commission today confirmed an additional 64 new deaths in the acute epidemic of nCoV pneumonia, bringing the number of deaths from epidemics in China to 425. The major deaths are in Hubei province and have been exceeded SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) in 2002-2003.
The total number of deaths from pneumonia worldwide is now 426, including the death of a Wuhan man in the Philippines. Authorities also confirmed 3,235 new cases, bringing the number of infected people worldwide to 20,584, of which 20,400 were in China alone.
Epidemic pneumonia caused by nCoV started in Wuhan city from December 2019, spreading to 31 provinces in China and 25 countries in the world. China's Foreign Ministry said yesterday it was urgently in need of medical equipment such as masks, clothing and goggles to cope with the disease.
The Wuhan provincial government was criticized for hiding information related to the pneumonia epidemic until the end of 2019, despite having learned about the new disease situation weeks earlier. The Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party acknowledges there are many shortcomings in disease response and requires improvement of the national emergency management apparatus.
