China recorded an additional 31 deaths from nCoV, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 3,012 out of a total of 80,409 cases.
The National Health Commission of China (NHC) today announced an additional 31 deaths from nCoV, both in the Hubei epidemic, and 139 new cases, up slightly from 119 cases a day earlier. The whole of mainland China has recorded 80,409 cases, 52,045 people have been cured, while 5,952 people are in critical condition.
Most cases and deaths have been recorded in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province. The city has been frozen since the end of January to prevent the disease from spreading. Quarantine and travel restrictions across China appear to have worked as official figures show that the number of new cases has continuously decreased in recent weeks.
However, Chinese officials are concerned about the cases of citizens returning from abroad. There are 13 cases of nCoV infection being Chinese citizens returning from Italy, Iran and the United Kingdom. Beijing, Shanghai and southern Guangdong province have introduced quarantine measures against people from the affected countries.
Covid-19 has appeared in 84 countries and territories, making 95,332 people infected, of which 3,285 deaths and 53,641 people were cured. While the epidemic situation in China has cooled, the number of cases outside the country is increasing rapidly, with outbreaks in South Korea, Iran and Italy.
