American Gregg was sentenced to 15 years in Oklahoma by the Oklahoma district court for possession of cocaine, but released when tests showed it was milk powder.
Gregg, a 26-year-old homeless young man, was arrested on 12 August after being stopped by police in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA for riding a bicycle without a taillight. However, this man did not obey the police orders but stepped faster and jumped off the car to flee.
The police followed and subdued Gregg. When searching his backpack, they found a can of coffee and a large plastic bag containing white powder. "Based on my trained knowledge and experience, I believe it was cocaine," the police officer told Gregg to write in the report. "The white powder in this bag is positive for cocaine test and has a total weight of 45.91 grams.
Gregg has been held in the Oklahoma county jail since his arrest. In his trial last week, he agreed to an agreement to admit to possession of cocaine with the intention of distributing and transporting to a 15-year sentence.
However, he later retracted his plea when the laboratory announced the official test results that the white powder he owned was actually milk powder. Gregg said that he pleaded guilty because he did not want to continue being held at the Oklahoma county jail and that the flour he carried was from a restaurant.
The Oklahoma District Court judge on October 17 approved Gregg's request and released him the next day.
