Ukraine The assassin group shoots at a car driven by Ukrainian MP Vyacheslav Sobolev in Kiev, but the bullet hits his three-year-old son.

Senator Sobolev on 1 December evening driving a Range Rover in the heart of Ukraine's capital Kiev when a group of strangers riding in a Lexus suddenly approached and opened fire.

The assassin group deliberately aimed at the window on the steering wheel to kill Sobolev, but the bullet was deflected and hit his three-year-old son, police sources said. The assassin launcher car left the scene shortly thereafter.

"The wound from the bullet caused the boy not to survive in an ambulance to the hospital," Ukraine's Interior Ministry informed on Facebook. This agency has not confirmed the identity of the owner of the car and the victim.

Sobolev, a member of the Kiev parliament, is also a businessman from Donetsk, eastern Ukraine. He was head of Ukraine's state energy company Naftogaz in 2010-2011.

A number of politicians have been assassinated right on the streets of Kiev in the past few years. In 2017, Colonel Maskym Shapoval, a senior official of Ukraine's military intelligence, was killed when his car was bombed. At least 5 assassinations were made against senior Ukrainian officials that year.
